Allison on working with John

John on working with Allison

quote"Allison is the Essential Ingredient for any project that you want to succeed.  I’ve seen her working on a wide range of gigs - some huge, some crazy, some with disparate teams or a hardworking few – and she is always the calm eye of the storm; the cool, calm and collected one that quietly gets things done and moves on to the next thing.  Her biggest weakness is underestimating how much she brings to most projects – the passion and the dedication – so she can run herself ragged working to make an initiative everything it might be.  Through the good humour and even temper it’s often easy to miss her gently but firmly ‘leading from behind’ as she puts it.  I’ll give her five stars."

The Know And Then founders, Allison Hornery and John Wells, have a firm and shared commitment to capacity-building leadership for communities – local communities as well as communities of interest and enterprise.  One priority is promoting innovative knowledge programs for those working in the public sphere, in particular to the Local Government sector (as the leaders and managers of Australia’s local communities) as well as other community leaders.  This also includes cultivating opportunities to enhance the potential for all levels of Government and other sectors (business and non-profits) to support the development of their stakeholders and communities.

Over some 12 years, Allison Hornery and John Wells have collaborated on a number of major public sphere programs for government and peak bodies, including:

  • National Roundtable on the Quality of Community Life: A summit in Parliament House by ALGA and ACOSS for national peak organisations representing local government, business, unions, community groups, faith, indigenous, academia and others.
  • “Competing Fairly Forum”: a national satellite narrowcast into 40 towns reaching local leaders.
  • International Year of Volunteering: nationwide celebratory program for AMP
  • Red Tape Blueprints: consortium of 41 Local Councils implementing technology-based reforms for small business under a Federal program
The Know And Then management team have also:
  • Consulted to and produced stakeholder engagement programs for the ACCC, Treasury (GST Start-Up) and other Federal agencies as well as State Government and business associations.
  • Coordinated the multi-stakeholder Tax Reform Summit in 2000.
  • Facilitated CEO-level forums for business peaks for Federal Government.
  • Consulted to national (ALGA) and state Local Government Associations.
  • Run “Gateways to Government” regional forums in 2007 for Chambers of Commerce and local business leaders.
  • Facilitated the e-Business GovForms forum (September 2007).
Oh. And yes, we're also partners in the most important sense!
